As to the play particularly, it was most nollceable that Hong- kong were at a serious disadvant age as regards ponies. They brought 11 with them, five belong ing to people not on the team and therefore probably somewhat strange to them in actual use, and four more were lent to them in Shanghai by Mr. H. D. Rodger. There was nothing much wrong, with the ponies and frequently some of them outpaced Shanghal's best, but in difficult situations it was many times apparent there was not that perfect understand- ing between player and pony which is so essential.

A cricket match took place on the Boys' School Field on August 23: The tena were chosen from Cricket Club members., visitors, and the schoolboys. A rather uninter- esting gaine followed, Mr. Neville's Great Game. Graham's team declared after' wickets, Neville (the Hongkong captain) making 101 for fiva easily was the best man on the Hazeland making a fine 40. Mr. field and a team all of his calibre Towlson's team played till time, would have taken the cup to Hong which was called much earlier than kong. No. 3 should be a ubiquitous usa!, their score then being 84 for person and Neville was all that. 7 wickets. Wherever there was danger or a possibility of scoring, Neville had a say in it. Not even McMichael hit harder than he and not one of the other seven could approach him for accuracy. Yet he did not attempt to monopolize the play and he gave some fine exhibitions of riding-off whilst others were on the ball. Hongkong were beaten, but not Neville. Neither could fault be found with Judd. He is of that quiet, steady nature, never notice- able until something brilliant happens the type of player who always drops into the right place without an effort, sensing a change of tactics even before it is put into operation. Judd was largely re- sponsible for keeping the score as low as it was and he was not to blame for the goals that were scored. Davies and Palmer were McMichael muffed a hit, drove in outclassed by their comrades and himself in so threatening a way their opponents.
