SUPPORT ON TERMS.

(Reuter's Service,),

PARIS, August 26. The Government has lɛɛned an official statement of its views ön the treaty of mutual assistance which will be discussed at the forthcoming Assembly of the League of Nations. It says that while it is desirous of following the traditional policy of France in support of the League, the French Government is willing to approve the pact only in so far as it may be consistent with her desire to ensure her security and the reduc- tion of armaments, but will not consent, under any circumstances, to participate in a conference for the reduction of armaments with= out a preliminary, guarantee of security. In any case the question of the reduction of French arma- ments might be more suitably discussed in the French parliament. The statement justifies the treaties entered into by France for her own security and makes a number of suggestions for improving the terms of the treaty.
