RIO DE JANEIRO, July 27, ficial communiqués, state that, with the ex- ception of Sao Paulo, the whole country is calm and supporting the Government.
On the other hand, Buenos Ayres transmits what are described as authentic reports, to the effect that Government has declared martial law in the states of Rio Grande, Matto Grosso, Santa Catharina, Sergipe and Bahia owing to unrest there. The situation is said to be such that the Federal Government fears to withdraw troops from any of the above-mentioned places to help in the siege of Sao Paulo.
FEDERAL ADVANCE REPORTED.
BUENOS AYRES, July 26, The evacuation of Sao Paulo by non-combat- ants, which was ordered by the besieging Federals, is being delayed owing to the paucity of transport facilities. Meanwhile, it is declared, the Federals are steadily advancing to positions around the city, i but it transpires the rebels still hold the town of Campinas, fifty miles Northward of Sao Paulo, the Federal encirclement of which has not yet been completed, Federal acroplanes have bombarded the rebel positions. The newspaper "La Prensa."! learns that the forts in the harbour of Rio de Janeiro, one of which participated in the mutlay of 1924. have been precautionarily disarmed.
