A Pensnett, Staffordshire, wo- man-Miss Emily · Mountford- who, has been admitted to the Wordsley Infirmary, is stated to have been a rechiuse for 30 years- owing to losing her beauty through small-pox.

With the death of Mrs. Harriet Dans in a Brooklyn boarding house the beautiful prophecy in

Mr. Hart Pease Danks, a young musician and singer, composed to his wife in 1874 one of the tenderest love songs of the ages, but when pros. perity came to the young couple as a result, domestic unhappiness came with it Danks and his wife parted, and twenty-one years ago he was found dead in a Philadelphia boarding house kneel- ing beside his bed. On an. old copy of his famous song he had written:

Noth Ing in a shop was too good or too expensive for her. After making a careful selection of merchandise, she would call for the manager, and, introducing herself as the bearer of a noble name, would ask that the goods she had chosen should be sent to a botel, where she would pay on delivery. She always selected a hotel with a double entrance, and, when the tradesman's messenger arrived, she would accept bis package and ask him to wait for a moment while, she went to her room for money. In this part of the, tran saction, too, her smile and elegant appearance served har ends. While the messenger still waited she would leave the hotel by another door to dispose of the goods 10 receivers, who are DOW being sought by the police.
