FLYING BOATS.
RE-FUELLING WHILE IN MA
MID-AIR.
Successful tests recently of a twin-engined flying-boat carrying as many as a dozen passengers at 100 miles an hour is a prelude to the construction of giant air-boats. These will incorporate recent secret developments, in metal construction and will be bigger than anything ever contemplated.
New technical methods are, being evolved which will enable weight-savings to be achieved and render obsolete, all metal-planes so far built.
The aim of the new researches ils to evolve winged ships of metal, with big, staunch, sea-going hulls, which will be independent of vulnerable aircraft-carries, and will By over oceans and stay wit cruising, merely requiring to re-fuel occasionally fron surface- tender, as would an ordinary ship. A further development will
probably be the mid-air re-fuelling of long-range Eying boats from aeroplane tankers" by means of flexible tube devices which exist already in a preliminary formi
We shall then have reached the ideal of big, winged cruisers. remaining long periods in the air, taking in fuel and stores-al some "aerial rendezvous arranged · by

Thanks to the work of Drs. Jules Renault and Pierre Paul Levy, the hope is held out that diphtheria may shortly be banished from the list of human ille, for these scientists have now been able to report to the Academy of Science would not part-with for a hundred Mr and Mrs W,Mr A. I. Terry the discovery of a vaccine which confers total immunity againet diphtheria. The line of research which has led to this happy result was really opened up by Dr. Roux, of the Pasture Institute, by his discovery of a serum which cured the allied disease of croup. Since that time many research workers have been endeavouring to push this scientific triumph a step further. The vaccino discovered by Renault and Levy is named A+T hyperacutralised, and is used as a subcutaneous injection. It has been tried on 300 children, whose subsequent immunity from diphtheria was proved by a special test known as Schick's Diphtherine Reaction. The vaccine confers inimunity within a few hours of injection, but. in order protection shall be lasting, two subsequent injections must given. The discoverers, though they have attained the principal object of their research, continuing their experiments with a view to perfecting their system. Revolving Houses.
