Outlining the case to the Magis trate aspector Robert-Lanigan said that defendant stowed away on the American ship" Las Vegas at Newcastle, Australia. The ship passed by Manila but the captain did not put him ashore and brought him on to Hongkong.
On May 10 the Captain took defendant to see the Harbour Master but during the interview, defendant slipped down the back stairs and disappeared. He was not seen again till yesterday. The Harbour Master did not want hi punished but wished him to be confined to the House of Deten- tion till arrangements were made to send him away.
