Almost immediately, the Indian heard a shot fired, and fearing that something was arniss, left his car and hastened in the direction Mr. Day had taken. Before reaching the bend he heard three more reports, and running along the road was horri. fled to find Mr. Day, standing, facing him in the centre of the road, with a revolver in his right hand.
The chauffeur rushed up to him and Mr. Day is alleged to have made a remark to the effect that he intended to shoot himself, im- mediately putting the pistol to his head and pulling the trigger. Mr. Day then fell helpless to the ground,
The driver at once, rushed back to the Hongkong Electric Works. where he reported what had hap- pened to Mr. S. Longfield, Mr. Day's departmental colleague.
