Rioting between Communists and Reich troops and marines in Hamburg, Germany's foremost seaport, on the River Elbe, resulted in the death of many combatants on both sides. This photograph shows a street trench and barricade erected by the Communists, after it had been captured pa sanguinary fighting by the Government troops. The rioters had torn up the pavement to build the barricade.

The ancestors of the American Indian are believed to have been traced by the finding of two skulls of a prehistoric era that have been , dug up by 'n Smithsonian Institution expedition near Santa Barbara, Cal. Archaeologists believe the discovery supplies the "missing link" between the American Indian and the primitive races that roamed the plains of Europe thousands of year ago. The men holding the skulls ere: J. P Hartington, leaders of the expedition, and D.-B. Rogers, his Associate.
