COMMERCIAL NOTES,
BIG DEMAND FOR LAUNCHES.
CANTON TRADE CONDITION.

About thirteen thousand bags of Java sugar for Nem Pak Hong, and a large quantity for the refineries, arrived during the week-end. About sixty thousand bags are also expect- ed by five steamers which are com- ing in during the next few days. This has had the effect of producing a quieter tone in the local augur market. Importera are marking, time, about $16-70 being quoted, per picul, for the best lots of No. 24 rough white, and from $16.40 to
$16.56 for other samples. Small 'lots have been offered by speculators at as much as 70 cents per picul lower. A drop has been recorded in quotations for futures."

Up-country paddy crops are now ready for harvesting but there is no drop in local prices. Superior quality Siam is up a few cents, but, other grades rozanin stationary.
YACHTING.
LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP.
Thirteen boats started in the first of the ladies' championship yacht races which took place yesterday afternoon. The boats got away to a superb start and there was some very fine sailing.
The start and finish were at the Club House and the mark boats were at Kowloon Dock and Black- head's, both being taken on the port hard. This course was sailed twice and the distance was 5 miles. The wind was easterly and the force about 3.
