Dr. Ellen Fitz Pendleton President of Wellesley College, and one of the leading educators of the country, has been selected as the woman member of the board which will award the prize $100,000 offer- ed by Edward Bok, of Philadelphia, for the best suggestion as to how America can aid the advancement of world peace.

Los Angeles police have thus far been unable to solve the mys terious murder of Mrs. Ethel Cass, 25 years old, a beautiful cabaret. Viale Gun and Harpooned, Whate.
Here is showna a monster whale, after being harpooned off the Akuntan Waaling Station, Alaska, the only whaling station in the Behring Sea. The harpoon is fired from this gun on board the whal ing vessel, usually at a distance of 30 yards. After the whale is shot the rope attached to the harpoon is detached and the harpoon left in the carcass. The missile embeds itself as much as three feet, in the whale. An afr hose is attached to the aperture, and the whale is inflated pneumati-'v-
cally, so as to make it float easily. The aperturo is then corked tightly with oakun. As many as seven whales can be toweɖ at once to the station, where they are prepared for different products. The oils are used for soaps, the meat for fertilizer and the bone' of the sperm whale is asad for whalebone.
