SERVICE WOMEN,
WORK EQUAL MEN.
The most severe critics of the re- port of the Committee recommend- ing reduced pay for the Fighting Services and a longer working day In the Civil Service were the wo men in the Post Office.....
Their anger has been roused by by the insinuation in the report that the services of the young woman Civil Servant are worth less than those of a young man of equal capacity.
The Federation of Women Civil Servants have called a council meeting to discuss future action. Mrs. White, the secretary, de- scribed the suggestions in the re- port as insulting to the women. She added:
Women do the same work in the Post Office and other departments as that performed by inen, and the suggestion that unequal pay should be given for the same class of work will be stoutly resisted. In the Post Office Savings Bank, where men and women are inter- changeable, the record of the men for mistakes was at one pariod much worse than that of the women,
COMMITTEE'S "IGNORANCE.” The assertion in the report that women are newcomers to office work is clear evidence of the ignorance of the Committee of the work of women Civil Servants. Women, are being retired superannuation at 60 fron General Post Oflice every month.

As to the suggestion that wonten should be recruited at lower rates for the Civil Service than men, the whole tendency of educated women to-day is against being blacklegs.
At the Civil Service Clerical Association the women officials were equally emphatic in their.com- demnation of the report.
The secretary of the Confedera- tion of Civil Servants said:
You many take it that the pro- posal of a longer working day for London Civil Servants will be firm- ly resisted. Increase of hours for men in the routine clerical classes would mean reductions in the staff and the inevitable result if that suggestion were adopted would be the throwing into unemployment of more ex-Service mea
