LOCALFOOTİ BALL
DEMAND FOR TAXIS BEFORE RESULT OF MATCHES ON
DAYLIGHT.
MR. A. H. ROWE'S POSITION.
Now that training is in full swing at Happy Valley race-course view of the approaching gymkhanas and Spring Meeting, owners, "trainers-and--" gentlemen jocks" are anxious to make use of taxi-cabs as a means of reaching the course in the early mornings.
At the present, however, no taxi is to be found on the streets before 7am., which is too late in the day for the early birds.

WILLING TO HELP.
"I am most anxious to help in the matter," said Mr. Rowe, "but at the present moment I regret can do nothing, though before the -end of the year I shall be in a posi-) tion to cater for the wants of all, who wish to go to the race-course! during the training season."

Asked whether he was prepared 19 make a contract to convey par- ties to the racecourse by the month, Mr. Rowe explained his difficulties. For instance, under present circumstances, would have to, come to town from Wanchai, pick up the fare, journey to the course and in all probability return empty. Thus a cab would make two journeys empty for une fare.
To the suggestion that the six cabs commencing work at 7 an., might be available earlier, Mr. Kowe said: Just now, I do not consider it advisable to worry my drivers tou much. They are begin ners at the game and naturally inclined to be nervous. As it is, some of the men are working 12 to 14 hours a day except when they
are at meals.

The R.A.M.C., played with 10 men dur- ing the second half as one of their forwards was unfortunate enough to break his arm after play had been in progress for a few minutes.
Two important matches were played on Tuesday when the Head- quarter Teams of the King's met, each other and
"A" Co. met "C"
Cu.
Neither of these four teams had lost a match up to this date.
The Headquarter Teams divided the points but "A" Co. were sound, ly beaten by "C" Co.
All the RG.A. Teams were out on Wednesday, 83 Co. securing a good win over 94 Co. and 88 Co. going down to B. Co. by six goals
to unc.
With regard to making a con- tract as suggested, I feel that, at presem, I am not in a position to Kive satisfaction. Before the end of the year I expect to have 50 more taxi-cabs on the streets. Theh I shall put a certain number on tite streets by 6 am. expressly to nivet the requirements of people anxious to participate in, or watch the training. When the new cabs artive, there will be no need to diecus contracts, car con pany is prepared to run the risk of picking ip il return fare after taking passengers to the course in the arty hours.
