The Quarterly Communication of the United Grand Lodge of Eng lish Freemasons
was held at St. George's Hall Liverpool, under the presidency of Lord Ampthill, Pro Grand Master. Special interest attached to the gathering, which was attended by 2,500 represent ative members of the craft, as this was the first ocession in the history of English organised Freemasonry on which the Quarterly Communi- cation of Grand Lodge had been held outside London. As evidence of the interest evoked by the new departure, it was reported that over 3.500 applications to be present had been received from brethren quali fied to attend, and asthe hall could not accommodate, for such an occasion, more than 2,500, an ap portionment of places had had to be nude. -NAVAL FIXTURE DECIDED.
Yesterday morning in the V.R.C. bath, which had kindly been lent for the match, a water polo team from the Kowloon naval depot succeeded in defeating the Dock yard. team to the tune of five goals to three. Two previous attempts to decide the fixture had both ended in a draw so that there was a good deal of keenness about the contest yesterday morning.
In the first half Reid (2) and George were instrumental in registering three goals for Kow- loon while the Dockyard had to be content
with one, scored by Farlow. Hutton and George made Kowloon's score up to five in the second half and Crocker, who was trying hard to score all the time, put on two more to the Dockyard totul.
After the match spoons were | presented to the winning team by Mr. R. C. Witchell, hon. secretary of the V.R.C., and a neat speech of that was made by MW. M. Deaton, who very efficiently kept goal for Kowloon and contributed a no small measure to his team's victory.
