If there hadn't been polieca union in Boston there wouldn't have been a police strike. And if there hadn't been a police strike Calvin Coolidge, then Governor of Massachusetts, wouldn't have bad

a chance to refuse to "arbitrate the law." As it was,, the Governor

took a firm hold in the crisis, ordered. State troops to do police duty and refused to permit the strikers to return to their post. Overnight he became a nationit figure, and his nomination to the Vice-Presidency followed: The man who organized the police union and led the strike was John F. McInnes, World War veteran. Mcfnnes, who banded 1,400 policemen together, lost his job, along with 1,100 of his comrades He is said now to be dying of an incurable malady, in the outskirts of Boston. Governor Coolidge is shown inspecting the National Guard on September 16, 1919 during the strike
