COLLIERY DISASTER.
LONDON, October 4. The Rescuers' persistence at the Redding pit was rewarded at three o'clock this morning, after all hope had been abandoned, by the recovery alive of five miners; all in good condition.
The rescues were the result of ten days of gigantic toil, digging through debris in the direction of the elevation pit known as Spionkop. Here the five were They found huddled together. crawled out on all fours like frogs, all except one being in com paratively good physical condition. They had kept themselves alive with water, and were cheered by the sounds of blasting and boring for the last four days.
