The TELEPHONE HANDBOOK costs $1 per copy and is sold on the strict understanding that on the publication of a new one the old one will be returned to the publishers. The proviso is made in the interests of Subscribers in view of the frequent changes that take place.

HYACINTHE'S FATE.
VETERINARY AND WIDOW'S WHITE MOUSE.
A murder charge was dismissed by a Berlin magistrate on the grounds that he had more import- ant cases to deal with.
The information was laid by a widow, Frau Bertha Scukblei, against Herr Theador Schmidt, a veterinary.
"He killed my Hyacinthe," she declared tearfully, producing from.: beneath her voluminous mantle a small cage containing a white
mouse.
"This," she told the magistrate, "is not Hyacinthe, the little
Flyosan
princess whom I took to He Schmidt when she was ill. When I went to fetch her, the mouse Herr Schmidt gave me bit my anger. Then I know that it was not my Hyacinthe. Herr Schmidt had mur dered her".
Herr Schmidt admitted that Hyacinthe had succumbed, and that to save his professional reputa- tion he had substituted another
mouse.
After the magistrate had given his decision, From Seukblei left the court with the changeling, murmur ing: Sho will never be to me what my Hyacinthe was."
