CRIME.
SERIOUS AFFAIRS.
In addition to the armed robbery at Argyle Street reported in yester- day's China Mail two other crimes in which violence was used were committed in the Yaumati district yesterday. During the last few months, robberies on homes and on the highways in Yaumati-a veritable hotbed of crime-have been on the decrease and yester- day's number was very unusual.
A Chinese who had been attack- ed by three men who had accom- panied him for a stroll for several hours made a statement that he had been shot in the head and back. When examinations were
made it was found that this could

wounds seemed to have been inflicted by a chopper or other sharp instrument. It is thought that in the excitement of the moment the man must have been mistaken or shots may have been fired but not taken effect.
The victim started out from No. 18, Austin Road at 8 p.in. with the three men who are believed to have robbed him. Shortly before midnight they were standing behind No. 170, Woo- sung Street, when an attack- was made and the man relieved of $200 in money. It is not possible to obtain further particulars at present as the victim is lying in a semi-conscious condition in hos pital. Three men have been detain- ed in connection with the robbery,
On the pretence of buying mineral waters at midnight last night, four or five men gained admittance into a confectioner's premises at 50, Tai Nan Street, where they drew revolvers and daggers. After intimidating the pccupants, the robbers got away with jewellery valued at $200 and $240 in money.
TYPHOON.
FURTHER DISASTERS.
Two further fatal wrecks of small craft during the typhoon last Saturday have been reported. A fishing juak bearing a Hong- kong license number T2554H was wrecked while at anchor of Tong Ka Wan and two women members of the crew are missing. Tong Ka Wan is believed to be near, Macao and is the birthplace of Tang Shao-yi, China's ex-premier. Another fishing junk was moor- ed off Ah Chau Island last Satur- day morning when the moorings gave way and the vessel was car- ried against the rocks to become a' total wreck. Thirteen of the crew of sixteen are missing.
