¡WING to the" receipt of“ namerons complaints" from patrons as to the incivility of various mombora of the Staff of the Hotels under the Maungement of this Company in Hongkong, such complaints being to the effect that "Cash ", has been demanded in satisfaction of Liquors suppliol, and patrons thereby inconvenienced by not being allowed to sign “chits," we log to draw the attention of our clientele to the terms of the Liquors Ordinance, 1917, an extract from which is horohy given :—

(a) * Carl" means any coins or notes currant in the Colony. (b) Sale" includes any transaction in which intoxicating liquor is Epplied for any consideration whatsoever, direct or indirect.
3. (1) Subject to the provisions of auberection (2) of this euction, na person shall sell any intoxicating liquor for consumption co or at any licensed premises except for cash.
(2) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to the following:— (a) any sale by the proprietor of an hotel to a person residing at
the hotel:
(b) any enlo by the proprietor of a batel of liquor to be consumed
in the dining room of the hotel at one of the regular meals of the hotel ar of liquor to be consumed in conjunction with any other bona fide meal for which a charge of at least thirty cents can be reasonably made
(e) any sale in accordance with the conditions of his lieonet by
the bokler of a restaurant wijanet ficence.
4. Where any intoxicating liquor is sold by a servant or employee in
contravention of section 3 of this Ordinance the employer, whether a natural poreon or a holy eorporato, shall be deamar to be guilty of un offence against this Ordinance unless he proves afirmatively that the sale was against his express orders and without his consent or connivanco.
5. Every person to whom any liquor is, to the knowledge of such person, supplied in contravention of this Ordin- ance shall also be guilty of an offence against this Ordinance.
The co-operation of our Patrone, with a view to assisting us to carry out the provisions of the Liquora Ordinance, is respectfully requested.
