ANNOUNCEMENT.
WING to the receipt of numerous complaints from patrene na to the incivility of various members of the Staff of the Hotels under the Management of this Company in Hongkong, each complaints being to the effect that "Cash" has been demanded in satisfaction of Liquors supplied, and patrons thereby inconvenienced by not being allowed to sign "obits," we bag to draw the attention of our clientels to the terms of the Liquors Ordinance, 1917, an extract from which is hereby given:-
2. In this Ordinanco.
(a) Cash" means any coins or notes current in the Colony.
(b) Sale" includes any transation in which intoxicating liquor is -supplied for any consideration whatsoever, direct or indirect.
8. (1) Subject to the provisions of subsection (2) of this section, no person shall sell any intoxicating liquor for consumption on or at any licensed premises except for cash,
(2) Sub-section (1) of this section shall not apply to the following:-
(a) any sale by the proprietor of an hotel to a person residing at
the hotel;
(b) any sale by the proprietor of an hotel of liquor to be consumed in the dining room of the hotel at one of the regular meals of the hotel or of liquor to be consumed in conjunction with any other bona fide meal for which a charge of at least thirty cents can be reasonably made
(c) any eals in accordance with the conditions of bis licence by
the bolder of a restaurant adjunct licence.
4. Where any intoxicating liquor is sold by a prvant or employes in contravcution of section 3 of this Ordinance the employer, whether s natural person or body corporate, shall be deemed to be guilty of on offendo against this Ordinanca unless ho proves affirmatively that tho sa'o was against his express orders and without his consoat or connivanco.
5. Every person to whom any liquor is, to the knowledge of such person, supplied in contravention of this Ordin- ance shall also be guilty of an offence against this Ordinance.
The o-operation of our Patrons, with a view to nasisting us to carry out the provisions of the Liquors Ordinance, is respectfully requested."
