WING to the receipt of numerous complaints from patrons as to the incivility of various members of the Staff of the Hotels under tho Management of this Company in Hongkong, such complaints being to the affect that "Cash" has boon demanded in satisfaction of Liquers supplied, and patrons theroby faronvenienced by not being allowed to sigu “chita,” we beg to draw the attention of our clientele to the terms of the Liquors Ordinance, 1917, an extract from which is heroby given

2. In this Ordinance.....

(a)Cash" menns any coins or notes current in the Colony, (b) Salo" includes any transaction in which intoxicating liquor is. supplied for any consideration whatssover, direct or indirect.

3. (1) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (2) of this section, no person shall sell any intoxicating liquor for consumption on or at any licensed promises except for cash.

(2) Sab-section (1) of this section shall not apply to the following:

(a) any sala by the proprietor of an hotel to a person residing at

the hotel;

(b) any sale by the proprietor of an hotel of liquor to be consumed in the dining room of the hotel at one of the regular meals of the hotel or of liquor to be consumed in conjunation with any other book fide meal for which a change of at leset thirty ceo can be reasonably made;

(c) any sale in accordance with the conditions of his licence by

the bolder of a restaurant adjunct licenco.

4. Where any intoxicating liquor is sold by a servant or employee in contravention of section 3 of this Ordinance the employer, whether a ristural person or a body corporate, shall be deemed to be guilty of on offence against this Ordinance unless he proves affirmatively that the sale was against his express orders and without his consent or

connivance.

5. Every person to whom any liquor is, to the knowledge of such person, supplied in contravention of this Ordin- ance shall also be guilty of an offence against this Ordinance.

The co-operation of our Patrons, with a view to aasiating is to carry out the provisions of the Liquora Ordinance, is respectfully requested.

'Building the American Nation," was the guest'at luncheon of the American Society in London. In his speech he expressed the view that Britain and America were drawing nearer to a better understanding of each other's problems, and that the stars were fighting to bring the two peoples more closely into co-operation.
