LONDON, August 16, The Court of Inquiry into the loss of the Canadian Pacific liner "Marvale" found that the casualty was due to a grave error of judgment on the Captain's part owing to over-confidence regarding the position of the vessel.
Nevertheless the Captain is not censured.
QUICK WORK,
The court expressed appreciation of the very efficient manner in which the passengers and crew were taken off the wreck and expressed the opinion that this was one indication of the general efficiency with which the vessel was coinmanded.
The Canadian Pacific liner "Marvale" struck
Cape Freel rock in a fog, twenty miles westward of Capo Race on May 22, and sank in seven fathomis. She is now lying with her boat deck awash, a mile from Cape Pine, All the passengers, numbering 436, were safely landed.
