After the activity in the market for the coining cool season'e piece goods a slight relapse han get in and the Chinese dealers are now wait ing to see how things will notually puts out before actually committing themselves further. It now seema as if the majority of them were in fected by a sudden enthusiasm when a few ordered extra indente to be shipped immediately. A belief was I that an unlimited demand would be forthcoming and much resulted, several lots of -trade
flannellette, serge and light-weight woollens changing bands several times before the goods arrive in the Colony. It has now been ascer. tained that the dents were more the nature of speculation than real turnover as little of the purchases were for outports or river ports. Nevertheless, a feeling of confidence

COTTON AND YARN.

Since our last report on June 30 by s. Sicilia," our yarn market lus kept up very steady during the whole interval and a good inquiry in 10s, and 12s. yarn has resulted in the sale of about 4,500 bales with an advance of $2 to $3 per bale.
The recent news of a good crop of cotton in America and opening of the monsoon in India with better prospects, have tended to lower the price of this staple commodity and inve likewise affected our yarn market, which has remained at the close quiet,
Unsold stock 9,000 bales. Bargains in Chinese hands 6,80 bules.
Shanghai-Latent report shows a better demand in all counts of local mills yam with an improvement of T. 1 to 3 per bute.
Japandse Yarn.-In sympathy with the high rates in Japan, our market in this yarn has been much strengthened, and good lots changed hands at an iterease of $4 to $6 per babe as under ;—
