The trial was begun before the Eleventh Chamber of the Corn tional Tribunal in Paris of general mangrer and eleven formas directors of the Banque Industrielle de Chine, the collapse of which In 1921 created a great serisation in financial chicles in Europe and the Far East. Charles Victor, head of a banking organisation, which has since collapsed. Starting with a capital of 145,000,000f, the bank appeared to enjoy a period of great prosperity. By the end of 1919 f had ten branches in the Far East, and its balance-sheet' stood at 1,089,000,000f; which included 16,000,000f, of reserves. A new piano has just been built by the old English firm. of Broad- woodwhich is the oldest firm of keyboard instrument makers in the world—a pióno which, within the limits of faze of an ordinary "up- [right,'' aims at giving the voluzne- of tone of a concert grund." Our musical critic writes : **The new. *Broadwood' struck me ne baving a richness of tone not. known on the ordinary upright piano. The effect of the double- action appeare not so much to double the mero loudness of the sound as to enrich it. Whereas one might expect the percussive effect to be greater, it is the singing tone that is improved. The new Brood- wood is a very desirable instrument, -the more as it is so compact-it ir built with a keyboard that shute in; and the piano when closed takes up no more room than a writing bureau, which in looks it resembles. At the back it has a secondary koy-- board for the tuner-for, of course,
