At Wimbledon in the lawn tennis champion ships ladies' singles final, Mile. Lenglon, the holder beat Miss McKane 6 2, 6-2.
Mile. Lenglen's defence was impregablo despite the remarkable activity of her opponent
In the second set Miss McKane delighted the spectators by coming up to the net making slashing returns and scoring by strokes to the comers, but Mile. Lenglen, who is still incomparable, won easily
SUPERB PLAY.

The weather was scorching and the stands were packed. Play opened in the centre court, Miss Colyer and Miss Austin beating Mrs. Youle and Miss Rose in the semi-final 8-6, 6-4.
The winners, who literally danced their way into the final, were dubbed the two Pavlovas. They had a hard battle but quickness and aggressiveness
triumphed.
In the second semi-final Mile. Lenglen and Miss Ryan beat Mrs. Lambert Chambers and Miss McKane 6-1, 6-2.
Mlle. Lenglen was brilliant. Miss Mckane provided most of the opposition, but the winners were superb. The length of their accurate placing kept their opponents at the base line.
The Davis Cup players Lycett and Godfree beat the Indians Deane and Fyzee in the semi-fina 8-6, 6-4, 6-3;
The final thus provides a return match to the Davis Cup match at Manchester on June 18 when De Gomar and Flaquer (Spain) defeated Lycett and Godfree (Britain) 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
In the mixed doubles semi-final, Deane and Mrs. Barron beat Richards. and Mrs. Mallory $-7, 6-3,6-4: This was the surprise of the day feature of the play was Mrs. Barron pluckily and successfully taking Richards service as no other lady has in the championships. She was the main instrument of victory.

The British steamer" Woron" was a captainless ship when she made port to-day, with a report by the Chief Officer, Mr. G. Philipps, that Captain A. Hope had been discovered missing on the morning of July 4; having apparently fallen overboard during the night.
The mate took charge and tracked back to the point where the Captain was last seen on board, but two look-outs in the crow's nest and two on the forecastle head did not find any trace of him.
The ship then came to Manila. The British Consul is investigating.

The dock strike continues to extend. 4,000 coal porters and employees on short sea trailing vessels struck in the afternoon, bringing the total number of strikers in London up to 21,000.
A further 500 dockers at Liverpool who were engaged in loading Alfred Holt liners on the China services strick to-day, but it is anticipated they will return to work after the week-end.
