LONDON, June 6. The weather was unsettled. There was large attendance, including the Prince of Wales, who in- spected the horses in the paddock. A storm was -threatening and the light was bad as the horses went

past the post.

ly the barrier ascended to a good start: Saltash, raced to the front, followed by Pharos, Knockando, Town Guard, Legality and Hurry Off. After a quarter of a mile Town Guard forced the pace, pursued by Logality, Pharos, Ellangowan, Doric and Papyrus. The horses then disappeared in the mist and when the colours could be distinguish ed entering the straight, Papyrus led followed by Pharos, and Doric. A quarter of a mile from home, Phares headed Papyrus but the latter rogained the lead at the distance and won comfortably. Doric was fourth. Town Guard, the favourite (5-1) cane in

thirteenth.

The time was 2.38.

Scaliger and Skis did not run. The latter was scratched at 4.55 yesterday evening. Otherwise the runners were identical with the probables.

The crew of the "Trevessa," 37 men, took to the boats in the Indian Ocean 500 miles from the nearest land, Amsterdamn Island Heavy seas are running.

[The steamship Trevessa" sent out a wireless that she was sinking rapidly in the Indian Ocean 1,200 miles from the coast of Western Australia. Amsterdam Island is about midway between the Cape and Tasmania. It is not inhabited.]

PREMIERS' RESOLVE

BRUSSELS, June 6.

M. Poincare, M. Ch. de Lasteyns, Minister of Finance and M. 'le. Trocquer, Minister of Public Works, have arrived. They were received on the station platform by M. Theunts, the Premier, M. Jaspar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Burgo- master Max.

They were warmly cheered by the crowd. The conference began immediately at the Foreign Ministry.

A communiqué, issued at the conclusion of the meeting of the French and Belgian Premiers states that the Ministers confirmed the previous decisions; especially the terms of evacuation of the Ruhr, namely the payment of reparations and the cess tion of passive resistance before proposals can be examined.

The communiqué concludes that the two Gov ernments have drawn up a programme of fresh measures to increase the present pressure and com pel Germany speedily to fulfil her obligations.
