One of the most extraordinary sociological inquiries ever under taken is nearing completion in the Bureau of Social Hygiene, in New York, of which Dr. Katherine Bement Davis is general secretary. It has sent questionnaires to thou-! sands of women that, for frankness and intimacy of detall, are breath- taking. Of 1,000 college women' interrogated 520 of 691 admitted they practised birth control. At least 375 ad pitted they hatt spooned, kissed and caressed ment before their marriage, but 208 said the only man had been the man they finally married. Of the 1,000 872 said they had made happy marriages.
