NORTHERN TRAIN OUTRAGE,.
PEKING May 10.
The American Legation states that the children of Major Pinger and Major Allen have been retensed, but the fathers have not heen re- leased. The lugation ways thut the confusion arose through the release of the children. The fathers are both unhurt but still held captive.
SHANGHAI, May 10.
As far as can be ascertained the captives include twa British sub- jects, Messrs. Sabpiere and. Row- Intt, six Américans, Messrs. Powell, Bolomon, Henley and Friendman and Majors Pinger and Allen, an Italian named Misso, a Frenchinan named Gonsburger and two Mexi- cans nained respretively Veren und Hindbe. The capture of Mr. Mac- Donald (British) is not confirmed.
The report that the Eliases have escaped is also unconfirmed.
It is semi-ollicially stated that the Minister of Communications has wired, to the Tuclion and the Civil Governor of Shantung stating that the Ministers of Foreign Powers are demanding that the captives shall be released within three days), and calling on them to bring about this by some ingang.or other, and also. stating that if funds are needed the Chiotangpo Ministry of Communi- cations) will supply these funds. -
It is expected at Tsinanfy that the remaining captires will be re- leased to-day.
The late Mr. Joseph, Rothman (British) having no relatives in China, the British doctor at Lin-1 cheng is arranging for the inter-
munnt.
Citieials do not confirm the report. thus the Chinese Government has instructed the local authorities to pay whatever rumou is denunded by the boudits, pointing out that if it were widely reported that the Goverment was willing to pay any ransom demanded it might lead to other to eigners being kidnapped in other parts of the country.

Sir James Macley, K.C.M.G. (British Minister to Peking) and Mr. E. Teichman, C.1.E. (Acting Chinese Secretary), called at the Waichinopu(Chinese Foreign Office) yesterday. They were received by the Vice-Minister' of Foreign Affairs who, on behalf of the Chinese Gor. ernment, expressed profound regret at The Lincheng outrage, adding that the Governinent was doing all in its power to alitain the release of these captures.
