SLINGING THE EGG.
BABYLONIAN COOKING
EXPERIMENT,
"Wanted, strong men to cook
egge.
H
This kind of advertisement suggested by the recent re-discovery of a method of cooking egg by rapidly whirling them in slings, attributed to the Babylonians.
It has been made by Mr. Lealis J. Harris, a demonstrator and re- search worker in the laboratorios at Emmanuel Collogo, Cambridge, who confeaned that he had not attempted to cook eggs himself titie way, but had made experimenta showing that egg-white mechanical, atrain such na vigorous elakng coagulates or thickens.
under
A Daily Mail reporter who tried the sling method of cookery, writes:-
A person who tries this ruetliod must have some physical endurance, for the whirling of a sling for a protracted period is not a task to ba lightly undertaken. Slings such as the Babyloninna used are not to be found in every household, and the uso of a silk stocking as a sub stitute will not commend itself to a thrifty house-wife, particularly in view of possible mishaps such as befell my experiment.
I placed the egg in the corner of a stocking and whirled it vigorously for five minutes. In some way the silk caused the egg-shell to break. The content scattered in all dünce- tions, but it had boon whirled long enough to cause an alteration in their density, as a colleague who intercepted some of them is prepar ed to testify.
