BISHOP BUDKIEWICZ

EXECUTED BY SOVIET

SARCASTIC PRESS COMMENTS.

WARSAW, April 4

It transpires that Bishop Budkiewicz was ex- ecuted at four o'clock on Friday morning. The news was delayed, the Soviets suspending telegraphic communication for four days. The sentence was carried out in the cellar of a Cheka building. The priest was placed with his back to the executioner who fired a revolver at the back of his head.

LONDON, April 4, Though peacemaking is apparently not progres sing in Ireland, (the captures of irregulars are pro- ceeding steadily, Reports of the arrest of a dozen or more Irregulars are received in Dublin almost daily. It is noteworthy that they are including women who

SIGNOR NITTI'S CHARGE,

NOT PEACE BUT SLAVERY,

Emigration to America continues unceasingly. Hundreds of young men and girls from Kerry sailed during the past few days. It is estimated that there are ten thousand Irregulars and their sympathisers in Government jails. With the abatement of viol- ence throughout the country new problems are occupying the public mind, including Ireland's in- ternational position. News from Geneva that the

LORD CARNARVON'S DEATH.

!..

TOMB INSECT'S FATAL BITE.

CAIRO, April 4.

Lord Carnarvon died peacefully at two in the morning. He was conscious almost to the end.

Lord Carnarvon, who had become famous as the finder of Tutankhamen's treasure tomb, was announced a week ago to be in a critical condition owing to bloodpoisoning from an insect bite. His end could not have been entirely expected, as a the cable received earlier this morning reported that he had had a fair night and that his condition, though still grave, was more hopeful.

[The deceased, whose full name was George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert was the son of the fourth Earl and was 57. Educated at Eton and afterwards at Cambridge, he owned about 35,000 acres. His heir is Lord Porchester who is a Lieutenant in the 7th Hussars.]
