HICKORY DICKORY DOCK.

A TRUE STORY.

"Hickory Dickory Dock, The mouse ran up the clock. The clock struck one, And down hè came,

Hickory Dickory Dock," Can you imagine that little just when he reached the top the mouse climbing up the clock and clock struck one with a great boom! If must have been very frightening for such a tiny thing and I do not wonder that it went tearing down again as fast as it could go.

Now I will tell you about some- thing which was just as alarming for a grown up.

Most of you I expect know "Big Ben," the great clock which stands at the corner of the Houses of Par liament close by Westminster, Bridge. If you have not seen it you are sure to have heard of it or perhaps have seen pictures of it. sound can he heard for many When that great clock strikes the

miles. People are allowed to go inside it and there is a stairway up which you can climb till you get almost to the top of the clock.

There was a French girl staying in London once who very much wanted to climb up Big Ben, so she went up one morning, It took some time to climb up all those steps for you know how high Big Ben is. Foolishly enough she did not think at'all about the time and when she was just at the top Big Ben struck twelve !

Can you imagine the deafening noise of that big clock striking close by your ear? The only thing. that she could do was to cover her cars with her hands until the noise had died away and rush down like the

mouse in Hickory Dickory Dock. And, if ever she climbed up a clock again, I an: quite sure that, when she went up, she would think carefully what the time was!
