SATURDAY'S MATCHES,
HOME TEAMS BUCCESSES,
Saturday's Cricket Matches wera remarkable for the number of wins by teams playing on their own gronads. Altogether oven matches were played and six were won by home elevens while the other ended in a draw.
The most surprising feature of the League matches was the defeat of a strong Navy eleven by the Craigen-. gower team which included two players who have previously played for the Navy in the League. Omar and Grimes figured in s good stand for the winnere while the Rev. Purcell and Lieut. Skinner got into the forties for the visitors.
*cores.
On the military ground at Happy Valley, the Gunnste proved too strong for the Infantrymen by 31 runė. Both teams had a pronounced tsil but the other batsmen made useful For the R. G. A. Capt. Olliver one of the most consistent scorers in the League-and Major Matthews each made 47. Oliver's score included 2 sizes and 6 jours. Against some good bowling the Infantry opened badly. Bacon and Dodd made a stand, the former scor- ing 23 and Dodd carried out his bat for 50 including 9 fours.. Lat. White, the last bowler put on for the Tufantry, secured 8 wickets (6 of them clean bowled), for 17 runs in 6.3. overs a feat that will be remembered for some time. Capt. Davies again took the most wickets for the R.G.A., -8 to be precise (7 clean bowled)- but his average was not as good as White's.
Civil Service 2nd XI met with an- other defeat, this time at the hands of the Va aity 2nd XI. Làm, who opened the home team's innings, carried out his bot fer 70, but his innings was marred by a number of easy chances which were not accept- ed. The Civil Service batsmen failed
against some good bowling, the bighest store being 11.
In a friendly gama, the Club drew with Kowlooo.. Evans, bowling with: consistency, brought about a collapse, 6 Hongkung wickets being down for 30. The tail wagged and 74 were on the board before the 7th wicket fell. At this stago, Evans tired and 139 showed for 9 wickets but the innings closed for the same total. Kowloon, after a promising opening could not overhaul the total and when time was called, 6 wickets were down
for 104 rans."
Civil Service boat University in a friendly, Sayer making 13 runs and taking 4 wickets for 11 for the home team. A. R. Sutherland, after a long absence from local cricket, made a 10 appearance, scoring 24 for Civil Service. Both teams are in the running for League honours and the League game scheduled for February 10 at the Pokioium Ground is looked forward to with great interest.`
Kowloon 2nd XI took their revenge for a defeat on Boxing Day, beating the Club 2nd XI comfortably. Mao- konzia mado 51 for the Cluli ont of a. total of 307, his score including a six, A five and six fours. Jax, paved tho -way to victory for Kowloon, com- piling 88, the highest score for the day, Peat, achieved the "bat-trick,” bowling Overy, Fraser and Jeffries
