A statement of affairs had been lodged showing liabilities £37,863, óf which £31,053 was expected to rank for dividend, and assets consisting of furniture, £1,000, and a motor car, a gold watoh, and other property, together valued at £1,800. The whole of the assets were required to moet's claim for income tax and super tax.
In this statement Lady Duff-Gordon said she began business as a dreži maker and designer in 1893 and adopted the trading style of "Lucilo." She possessed no capital.

Just brore 1919 she was introduced to one Sbulbol, of New York, who suggested 1 bat she join him and open

She did not agree to the euggestion, but allowed "ber name to be used in connection with the business in America, a company being formed and carried on as "Lady Duff-Gorton." It was, however, not successful and later on she withdrew her name altogether.
In September 1918 Shuihof entered into negotiations with the various companies, with the idea of buying! the businesses or otherwise acquiring them or obtaining her interest and* control, and be induced her, so Lady, Duff-Gordon alleged, to siga two agreements.

She attributed her insolvency to? the failure of Shulhof to fall his agreement, to the stoppage of her! payments by the companies, and to alleged wrongful dismimat.
