A carious application of the X-rays to the discovery of unseen things has harp made by Professor Lemoine at Rheime. The chalk strata in that part of Francs (according to Popular Science) contains the fossil bones of Birds, reptiles, and mammals, and frequently these are shattered in the attempt at removal. It occurred to Professor Lemoine that the embedded fossils might be photographed by the aid of the X rays, since the latter paas readily through chalk, but are largely intercepted by the phosphates of banen. The resulting photographs. clearly indicated the details of the Fidden fossile.
