Mr. Bonar law, who only arrived after the dinner suffering from a cold and a haky voice, was heartily cheered on ris- ing to respond on behalf of the Govern ment. His only reference to the present cloctoral contest was a reminder that while all parties but one were fighting the Labour Party none was fighting Labour, bocause if such won the case not one of them could have a candidate re turned. He proveded to declare that the Government's aim was to give to the League of Nations, greater opportunities for usefulness. There was nothing new to tell than noout Constantinople whore the Allies were noting with most complete unanimity. Ha believed that the difhtul. ties there would be overcome and peace in Europe secured, if the wartime Allies would act together.
