INTERPORT TRIAL.
Hongkong's interport teat, eight players of which had already been chosen, was completed after Satur day's trial match, when the three remaining places were offered by the Selection Committee to R. Ë. A. Webster, Rev. E. Quick and B. D. Evang.
The full team is now as follows.- R. Hancock (Captain), T. E. Pearce, Capt. Davies, Captain Ollivar, E. B. Reed, L. J. Davies, G. R. Sayer, C. I. Stapleton, R. E. 0. Webster, Rev. E. Quick and B. D. Evans.
Hongkong will have nothing to fear from Shanghai in regard to batting strength, as every man in the team is
a sound bateman, capable of putting In the bowling de- up a good score. partmanat, throughout the
as had been evident tiial matches. Hongkong will be somewhat handicapped. Webster, Quick and EVADA are Jairly good bowlers, but it is feared that they would not be able to master the Shanghai batsmen on a good wicket.c If the visitors are fortunate enough to get the firet knock, they will run up a big score, and it would mern strenuous uphill work for the Hong- kong players if they hope to win. On the whole, however, the Hongkong team is a useful one and should give Shanghai a good tussla whatever happens.
Saturday's teams were captured by T. E. Prarco and R. F. B. Hancock, respectively. It was an off day for the batsmen and some big scores WHIL made. Pestco's team scored 211 for six wickets, of which the best con. tributions were Pearce 53, Ollivor 40 and Stapleton 30. Other useful double figure scores were Matthews 26, Wood 10 and Spinks 14. Webster was the beat bowler with two wickets for 23
кипа.
Hancock's team replied with 103 for two wickets, before time interven ed, a very excellent performance. Webster and do Rome batted sound- ly and scored 37 and 34 respectively. Évasr added a useful 15. It was a very successful day for Weba'er, who was in great form in both depart ments. Spiake and Dode took 916 wicket each for 14 and 16 runs re- spectively. Scored

FRIENDLY MATCHES.
It is a good all-round team and Ollerdessen....... fairly well representative of Shangbai's best talent. In Ollerdessen, Hayward, Leach, Clifford, Spencer, Leea and Diveche, the Sattimnet has sound batemen; and in Dr. O'Hara, Billings, Leach, Wilson, Divecha, C. E. Oller- descen and Clifford, four really good bowlers, and three always useful should the others fail.
Deaks is keeping wicket as well as over, and has a stubborn defence in batting while Spencer is also quite useful behind the stumps, if a reserve wicket-keeper should have to be called
for.
The team arrived by the R. M. 8. ***Emprees of Canada" and is due back in Shanghai, by the samo veesel, on the 19th instant.

and partly to this being the usual dull reason. With the sudden rise in the premium for Hongkong notes, prices have advanced accordingly, O although very few transactions bave 12 taken place. It is feared that should 7 the premium fall, there will be o austained drop in prices. One of the

ngsu Assembly, to solicit their help in obtaining the restoration of their wnge: to ..the scale previously in force. It astated that owing to the high prices. of raw co'ton and the renreity of demand, the masters had made an all round reduction in wages. The men now claimed that cotton was chraper, and good prices were being paid for the manufactured products. Cons quently, they felt that the employers could afford the old rates of pay. The meeting appointed six unen to represent all the guilds. They will intercede with the masters and the knitters decided not to act until the delegates had made a report.
