The result is that overcrowding, al. ways ectious in the Colony, bas in oreaard.
The following figures will be of in terest in this respect.
Health District 4 to 8 inclusive from the great central Chiarea postian of Victoria Their combined at: cage is 200 practically all built over. The Chinero housin and population there in as roumerated at the censuses of 1911 and 1921 can be compared by the following table.
1921. 5,003 16,031 160 055

1911. This would bring the number of persone per house to 344 and per acre to 861.6.
Very many ground Boors are used as shop and stores occupid at night by the shops' master and his fok only.
Based on the above given figures love in these districts was in 1911 7.0 the average zumber of persons per persoas, while for 1921, using the es ti nat.d figure for persons per ucuse,

FOUND DEAD IN A BOX.
Found d.ad in a camphor wood box in an isclated spot between Glenealy and Albany Road, the body of a Chinese aged about 35 years, bearing abrasions on the right elbow and leg and a small wound on the bead, was yesterday removed to the public mortuary. Foul play is spected.
The Public Health and Building Ordinance became law on the 24* February, 1903, but its effect was not
ald
immediate, indeed there was a marked tendency to have plans approved and buildings bigun under the Ordinance during 1902 to avoid the restrictions about to be intro luced by
the paw law.
