A tense diplomatic struggle among Slate, Permane and Italiars has begun in consequence of the almost desperate situation of Austria. Doctor Seipel, the Austrian Chancellor, visited Prague and Berlin to seek help to prevent the collapse of Austria and now co ferring with Signor Schanzer the Italian Foreign Minis ter, at Verona in regard to which France i ves closely watching developments. The French are opposed to the union of Austria with Germany or Italy but it is reported that they would favour the union of Austria with the Slav states composing the little entente but this is impossible owing to the attitude of Italy which threatens to intervene if Austría falls into revolution or attempts to unite with Germany or the little entente, It is stated that Signor Schanzer made this threat to the London conference when Mr. Lloyd George told him its might mean war.

The report of the Allinace Bank of Simla for the
year ended June 30 shows that the directors appropriat ed a reserve fond of 4 lakhs to meet losses and doubtful debts. A final dividend on ordinary shares for the year was passed, thus the return for the year is confined to an interin distribution of seven per cent.
