WE OWE THE UNIT¿D S'ATES 988 MILLIONS.
The Chancellor of the Exobequer says that we owe the United States 1938 000 000. The request recently made by the United States that the Government should consider funding the amount of the debt and placing it on a stable and equitable founda tion would be completely met. There" is no question at all," be suid, "about the attitude of this country, I do not think that any doubt exists in anybody's mind as to the comple'e aud absolute necessity of our full- ing our debts to the very utmost."
"We have undertaken to discharge our American debt irrespective of other considerations,"
says the Obarter. "By that undertaking our. credit and our repute have risen to a new height in the world. If in nego. tiation with Franco we were now to make some condition which would- seem to bring moral or any other pres sure upon America to remit our debt or part of it, we should be heavily the Losers."
