GLOVE FABRIC GROUSE,
THE COMMITTEE'S INVESTIGATIONS.
LONDON, July 28, The Fabric Gloves Committee estimate that sixteen million pounds of cotton yarns enitable for glove fabric-a are exported to Germany from the United Kingdom each year, employing 6,400 operatives. The yarn repre- sented by the year's import of German fabric gloves re- presents the production of 550 operatives who would be rendered idle if the duty was stopped on importation except as far as the home manufacture of gloves has in- cressed. The committee find it difficult to believe that German manufacturers will transfer orders for yarn to France and Switzerland both of whom impose duties on imported fabric gloves. They point out that the pro posed duty will end en August 19, 1924 and may pre- viously be revoked.
