The city is in a very serious pligh. to-night owing to the technical staffs leaving work, declaring that the protection is insufficient, and thus leading to the closing of the power station. The industrial federation in declaring the strike asked the staff to join the men. The closing means depriving the city of light and the stoppage of trams and in lastries dependent on the power.

The special progress made by the Senato foreign relations committee in considering and recommending the conference treaties appears to have given much satislac- tion in the United States. The committee with the une nullifying the vexatious reservations to the Pacific' #ptio. already telegraphed ha made a clean sweep, Treaty.
Persident Harding, according to the Daily Telegraph's New York correspondent, durs not believe the reservation adopted is necessary and the only object is to conciliate the irreconcilables.
