CABINET MINISTERS INCORRIGIBLE.

LONDON, February, 9 The anxiously awaited report of the Eric Geddes retrenchment committee is being published to-morrow. mea-There has been fierce discussion in the Freas of the Gov- ernment's delay in publication which is attributed to the activities of Cabinet ministers revising committees and whittling down certain recommendations. It is believed they rejected £20,000,000, or one fifth of the suggested saving. The departments most prominently discussed are the fighting services and education department. It £48.000,00 and £18,000 000. The Cabinet is reported is declared that the cuts recommended are respectively

to be divided on the subject of the cuts in the fighting services. The exact amounts of savings accepted will not be known till the Estimates appear.

The Northern Government is actively taking sures for salf-defence. Five thousand armed special Constables are holding the froidier and repair gangs or busy restoring the telegraphs in Belfast and Enniskillen which the raiders cut last night. This may explain the dearth of news for that the trouble is not finished ap- peared from a message received in the evening that five special constables and four British soldiers were kidnap- ped at Monaghan to-day by the Irish Republicao Army, THREE MEN.

LONDON, February 9. The condemned men in Derry Jail whose execution, Used for today, precipitated, according to Mr. Michegl Collins, the in Fein rade into Ul ter, are three inen, including a warder, concerned in the attempted escape of Sinn Fein prisoners from that jail carly in December when the warder was murdered and the police beaten bared and chloroformed. A reprieve was officially un-| nounced in Ireland on Tuesday evening. One eentenor was computed so penal servitude for life and the others to lifteen years" penal servitude. News of the reprieve was apparently not known when the raids were carried
