COAL GUILD RAIDED.
WORKERS OFFERED PROTECTION.
There was no perceptible change in the strike situation to-day. The cargo 8Th coal coolies are still displaying a disinclination to resume and an announcement was issued by the S.0.A. to-day offering police pro tection to those who return to work. Last night at about 9.30 the C.S.P. (Mr. E. D. C. Wolfe) and the D.S.P. (Mr. T. H. King) went along with a number of police officers and raided the offices of the Chap Yuen coal guild in Reclamation Street, Yaumeti. Books and papers were seized and some of the men found on the premises were detained.
A translation of notification issued by the Secretary for Chinese Affairs (the Hon. Mr. E. R. Hallifax) last night and circulated this morning is as follows:-
