NEW YORK, January 27. There was a stormy scene in the House of Representatives during the debate on the Dyer anti-lynching bill. Feeling ran high between the Southern
and Northern members,
A Mississippi cotton lauter declared that as long as "black fiends" interfered with white women they should be lynched.
A Wisconsin member declared that this was open advocacy of mob law, whereupon a crowd of negrees in the galleries rose and cheered lustily.
The Democrats shouted "sbut up" and "niggers in the galleries | " Finally the Serjeant at Arms was summoned and restored order.

The House of Representatives passed the Dyer anti-lynching bill by 230 votes to 119. The bill now goes to the Senate.

The Daily Telegraph's New York correspondent reports that President Harding has decided to ask Congress for £5,000,000 for ten years to subsidise the mercantile marine. The only alternative to this is said to be to sell the ships cheaply or acrap them, owing to the unprofitably high cost of upkeep.
