LLOYD'S ANNUAL SUMMARY.

ORDERS STILL BELOW NORMAL.

LANDON, January 24. Lloyd's annust summary showe that 1,500,000 ton- of merchantmen were launched in the United Kingdow during 1921, of which 590,000 were for owners abroad. This is a decrease of 517,000 tons compared with the record year 1920.

The world output was 4,340,000 tons, a decrease of 1,500,000 tons compared with the output in 1920, but over 1,000,000 tons increase compared with the previous

record in 1913.

The tonnage under construction in the world amquated to nently 4,500,000 tons being 27,000 lower than a year ago. The construction of many of these vessels has been suspended and orders are st·li far below the normal.

BOMBAY January 21. Lord Northebite, interviewed regarding the uurest, said he was shocked at the change of demeanour in the India., especially the Moslems, towards the whites. The Moslem situation was much uglier than the British press uppeared to know, and official, commercial, and newspaper authorities were insistent on the urgency of an immediate settlement, which according to the moderate Muhammedans, was only possible by a change of British policy towards Turkey, including recognition of the Sultan as the head of Islam and the restoration of the sacred city of Adrianople and the whole of Asia Minor, including myrna, to Turkey.

LONDON, January 24. According to a Russia atrado delegation telegram from Moscow the Bolshevik Government has sccepted the invitation to the Genoa Conference. M. Tobit- cherin has informed Signor Bonomi that the pan- Russian Executive Committee will meet on January 27 to appoint delegate. The telegram adds that plan are being elaborated for a large foreign loan and con- cessions in the Volga, as the reconstruction committer realises that restoration of agriculture cannot be realised without foreign capitat.

The Lancashire cotton operatives have agreed to accept the employers' proposal to reduce from three months to one mouth the period of formal notice of alteration of wage i.
