ARRESTED MAN PLEADS MISTAKEN IDENTITY.

Inspector Blackman charged Chinese before Magistrate Woodd this morning with having stabbed another in the abdomen in the course of a street fight in Wancha on January 3,

According to the Inspector, the fight took place in Swaton Lane, and Boveral witnesses, including two de lectives and

district watebman,

who were some 30 paces away at the the time, saw the accused or top of the complainant The latter suddenly called out that he had been stabbed, and the accused bolted. The

detectives arrested him. the threw away a dagger in the chase, but it was recovered from the drain.

Mr. C. 11. Lyson who appeared for the defence. suggested mistaken identity.

Mr. Lysou asked for a remand. fuspector Blackman anid that the complainant was nou ont of hospital. Ilis injury had not been as serious as at first thought, and be had made rapid recovery. He sug- gested that the charge might be re- duced to one of common assault. The Magis rute refused on the ground that a dangerous weapon had been used, and gave a remand until Friday after
