ALLEGED BREACH OF CON- TRACT INVOLVING MILLIONS.

Silver to the value of Tarls 4,000,- 000 entered largely into a dispute which was brought before the civil division of the Mixed Court, Shanghai, contending Dec. 6. The parties were Tam Lai-ting, plain- tiff, and Kung Chen, defendant. The defendant," according to evid- ence, agreed to purchase from plain tiff "bar silver" to the value of four million taols at the rate of $118 per 100 taels and to take delivery of sume, The silver was produced by the plain- tiff but defendant failed to take delivery whereby plaintiff auffered loss. He claimed damages Teels 430.000 for breach of agreement and the difference in the "contract" price of silver and the current market price, There was also a claim, similar: to the above, in which it was alleged that defendant failed to take delivery. of bar silver" to the value of Tls. 3,000,000, the purchase price in this instance being $117 per 100 taels.
