The visit, says the Times, will not be a mere reduplication of that of his father, and still less that of his grand-Me, father, when, as holders of the title of-f Prince of Wales, they were in India, for in a number of importaul re- sperts it will be adjusted to the rapid progress India has made, and notably since the Royal Delhi Darbar of 10 years ago. As indicating the changed conditions there stands out centrally the fact that more than a million Indians served in the theatres of war, arid some 60,000 of them made the great sacrifice. The prince will avail himself of every opportunity to recognize this great Imperial service by coming into contact with war veterans and the Indian Army generally.

fris

Hitherto Delhi has been the scene of military concentrations for Royal tours: but on this occasion, according to the provisional arrangements, the Jair Apparent will witness kuneuvres on a large scale on thei more interesting stage of the North- West Frontier. If on financial and practical grounds the number of assembled troops of all

Kuwal- between Peslutwar and pindi will not equal that seen by the King on the Delhi plain 10 years ago, the manauvres will much more nearly approximate in the theatre employed to beld conditions, and those in which the Northern Army; dose most of its work. It is under- stond that the opposing armies in the maneuvres will be enumauded by General Six II. C. Unincke and General Sir George Barrow,

The Prince will be given opportunities to see something of the reconstructed Volunteer organization which consists of the Auxiliary Force (comprising Europeans and Anglo- lodians, and already approximating, to the numbers proposed) and the Territorials. The latter is an entirely new organization, under which each province will provide a quota from its various races, irrespective of whether or not they belong to what are known as the martial communities.

The Imperial Service contingents, which are maintained as the Freewill,

opportunity for appreciation of the identity of interest with us in Im- perial integrity they evinced so spont- aneously in the war.

It is understood that special atten- tion will be paid to the growing and highly important student life of India. The hope expressed by the King Emperor iu Calcutta in January, 1912, that education would make rapid progress is being fulfilled; and no fenture of the progress is more interesting than the creation of non- Government tenebing and residential universities at Benares (Hindu) and Aligach (Mahomedan) untrammelled by the traditions of the old ex- amining and almost entirely non-teaching universities, Both these institutions will be visited, and the Prince will also come into contact with undergraduate life in the Pre- sidency towns, whether by sering their hostels and their sports or in some more ceremonious way as may be determined.
