MURDER REVELS.
ÚNCLE KILLED FOR £60.
BODY CRASHED INTO BASKET.
A remarkable crime has come to light in Paris through the confession of a young man named Marius Gounaud. after he had been confronted with the body, that he had raardered his uncle and put the body in u wicker basket.
Gounand, who said he shot his uncia, a concierge at 25, Rne de Con- stantina in the fashionable Fau- bourg St. Germain quarter, took the death-basket to the Gare de Lyon. He asked two portere to help him throw a "heavy basket of rotten meat": into the Seine. He said he was a butcher, but after one of the porters, who had worked in a butcher's shop, had received evasive replies to a few technical questions put to Couraud, the men became suspicious and told him to come back in half an hour, when they would carry out the job.
FACE TO FACE WITH THE BODY. When Gounaud returned, it was to walk into the arms of six policemen. He was taken to the police office inside the stition, and when the hamper was opened in his presepee. revealing his uncle's doubled-up body. he broke down and confessed to the crime. He expressed no regret, and said, ought to have done the job alone. I was a fool to bring the two porters into it."
Since his recent demobilisation, Gounand explained, he has been too lazy to work and, when looking round to see whom he cold rob, thought of his uncle M. Buissiere, who for some years has been the concierge at a large spartment house in the Rue de Con- stantine.
Gounand knew his uncle always kept! about £60 in the porter's lodge, and first tried to entice him away by telephoning him in the name of one of the tenants and giving him a bogus errand. This plan was not successful, because his uncle asked a neighbour to take his place while he was away.
At 8 o'clock in the evezing, when he thought he would not be disturbed, Geunand called on his uncle, saying he had come for his greatcoat M Boissiere, after giving his nephew a sound rating for his lazy ways, turned to get the coat from the cupboart. when Gounand pulled out; a revolver and shot him through the head.
BETELEY WITH A GIRL
"I saw a brown wicker basket in the cupboard" said Gounand to the rolice. I thought it would provide the best means of hiding the body. I put sa king and carpet inside to soak up the hired and then canmed in the body,
"There was no lock, so I twisted a piece of wire in and out of the basket- work to keep down the cover. I washed the blond-stains very care fally from the floor and rinsed my hands and the scrubbing-brush in the sink
"I found the money," "Gounaud continned, and having taken off all my clothes and put on my uncle's best suit I sat in the courtyard for some time as I did not wish to leave till everybody was abed. The only fright I had was just after I had fired the shot, when a fellow came with zewspapers for my uncle. I said he would be back in a few minutes and the man went away.
taxi-
"It was 11.30 when I got a cab and drove off to the Gare de Lyon, where I left the basket in the cloak-room.”
From the first the police had sus- pected that Gonnad might be on- cerned in the crime and bad searched for him. They learned that he had spent the day driving in a cab and feasting riotously with the driver and a girl retorious in the Bas- ille district as Nenett de la Basto- che" Bast he is a slang word mean- ing Bastille. The girl told the police that she was going to meet Gounaud. She and the driver of the taxicab that took the hamper from the house to the Gare de Lyon have been detained as suspected accom- plices.
