ALLIED GOVERNMENTS STRICTLY NEUTRAL,
PARIS, August 10.
The Supreme Council has decided that the Allies will maintain an attitude of strict reutrality in the war between Greece and Turkey in which the allied governments will not intervene with any form of assistance involving the despatch of troops, arms or credits, but freedom of private trade will not be interfered with. Thus private firms are entitled to con- tinue the supply of war material to the Greeks and Turks. The Council decided to undertake a joint demarche with regard to the belligerents with 3 vew to ensuring the freedom of the Straits.
TREATY OF SEVRES TORN UP.
PARIS, August 10. Addressing the Supreme Council on the Near Eastern problem, Mr. The Treaty of Sevres, Llord George said that conditions had changed. had been torn up by the Allies at the instigation of the Turks, though the Geeks were prepared to accept and act on it. The Greeks were therefore entitled to proceed on the assumption that the treaty no longer existed, and M. Briand's former dictum that the victors were entitled to the spoils o victory applied to the present occasion.

AN IRISH INCIDENT.
MURDERED MAN'S FAMILY PLEAD FOR MURDERER.
The father, mother, and brothers of the late Distric: Inspector Mc- Grath, who was fatally wounded in county Longford. and for whose murder J. N. McKeon, commandant of the IRA, has been tried and found guilty, have sent an appeal to Lord Fitzalan (the Viceroy). General Macready, and Sir Hamar Greenwood to exercise the prerogative of mercy in the case of McKeon. The appeal goes on:
"We desire it to be understood that the sorrow and loss sustained by us will be all the greater should it entail the loss of an additional life. and, above all, should it enta the execution of ose who evidently believed himself to be 5ghting legi- timately for the independence of his country, and whose last act, by the side of the deceased, was truly Christian.
"I, his (McGrath's) mother, who did not grudge.his services in the Great War, who was proud of his having won his commission, with the Military Cross, on the battlefield, respectfully beg that the hand of justice be tempered with mercy; and we, his father and brothers, do not ag's for vengeance but ask that true consolation will be afforded to us all in your giving effect to what we earnestly believe would have been the last request of the late district inspector that the man who spared and protected his prisoners should be spared and protected when a prisoner bimself."

The teapot was used on the journey for the ablutions of the party before prayers.
Mr. G. W. Webster, one of the Senior Residents in Nigeria, is ac- companying the party, and he told a reporter that the Emir was hugely delighted with his motor rua. He has motor-cars of his own. On the journey down the "scribe took notes of interesting things by the way.
