COMPLAINT.
ŞÓMEONE LYING.
Dressed in mufti a Chinese const- able was yesterday afternoon, walking in Belcher Street, West Point, when he was set upon by two men who dragged him into a building in the route of construction and gave him a severe beating. When the men were charged before Magistrate Lindsell this morning the constable alleged that the assault was committed as a reprisal for having secured the con- iction of a vonth for selling flowers without hicence. The two men ac costed him saying: "Are you the chief watch dog of this district?" When he told them that he was a Lakong, they took him into the new house and there assaulted him.

COMPLAINT.
BOYCOTT OF HONGKONG THREATENED?
IMPUDENT, SUGGESTIONS.
To-day's Conton Times says that"] H. E. Gor. Stubbe only apologised | for the wording of the two proclama- | tions recently issued by the Hong kong Government' over which so much comment had been aroused both in the foreign and Chinese press and not for the principles involved in the two proclamations, the Chinese people in the province are still far from being satisfied. It is reported that subtle forces are at work to agitate a general boycott of Hong- kong..
In view of the threatening attitude of the Chinese people, the vernacular press urge that Gov, Stubbs should take steps for the demissal of the official or officials who were respon- sible for the issuance of the two proclamations, so that the friendly relations between the British and Chinese should not be strained.
